Afew weeks later, I snapped pictures of the spectacular view as we drove over the Manhattan Bridge. The skyscrapers nestled against the East River were framed by bright sunlight. Once we reached the bridgeâs end, I was officially in Brooklyn for the first time. We pulled up to a contemporary hotel and parked in the garage. I was concerned about giving off an overly touristy vibe at first, but when I laid eyes on where we were staying for the next couple of days, I could no longer contain my excitement. Lennox was several feet behind me, helping the hotel attendant load our luggage onto a cart. I took that opportunity to let the moment soak in. Inside the hotel, reggae music was booming, and about a dozen people were nestled on plush couches, playing oversize Monopoly, Connect Four, and checkers. This was my type of vibe, and I instantly felt at home.
After checking in, we headed up to our suite. Once we crossed the threshold, I was reminded of the last time weâd been in a hotel room alone. I was hopeful for a different outcome because my man was looking fine in his open white linen cuffed shirt, light-blue harem joggers, and fresh white Air Forces. When I first answered the door the evening prior and saw him for the first time in almost a month, my mouth actually watered. His outfit fit his body to a tee. We both enjoyed driving, so we decided to do so in lieu of flying to get to know each other better along the way. But I knew then that pulling over at a rest stop and pouncing on him would definitely cross my mind a time or two . . . hundred . . . while behind the wheel. We took a nap for a few hours, then hit the road for the nine-hour trip. Since we were both music heads, we enjoyed some â90s hip-hop lyric battles and sharing fond memories while reminiscing about our childhoods.
The hotel room was bright, open, and breathtaking. The first thing I noticed was the view of the city. I rushed over to the picture window and stood there for a long time, taking in the slower pace of the residential area surrounding us. A few moments later, his hands gripped my waist from behind, and I leaned my head back onto his chest. I was looking forward to spending the next couple of days with him. I turned to face him.
âLennox, this is perfect.â
âGood. I figured you would like it.â
I slid my hands over his broad chest. âWant to fit in a quick . . .â
He inhaled as I squeezed my thighs together.
â. . . nap?â I breathed.
We chuckled, well aware of the mounting sexual tension raging between us.
He nodded. âThat would be nice. I was thinking weâd go see Mom Dukes for a minute before going to grab dinner.â
âSounds good. Iâm looking forward to meeting her.â
âShe canât wait to meet you, either. Halo, my father, is out of town on business, so itâll just be the three of us.
